A magnificent hand carved jewellery box, made from solid walnut wood grown on the hillsides of Kashmir. The hand carving of the detail makes all these boxes unique. The box measures 11" x 7" x 4" on the outside and 10"x5.5" on the inside. It is 3" deep.The box is lined with maroon velvet and is opened by a sliding secret lock.
The intricate carving on the front and back covers about half the area with a central deep carving of a dragon with red stone eyes set within an elaborate diamond outline. This pattern is carved delicately leaving a section of smooth grain. The four sides are also carved in elongated panels.
The box has been burnished using an agate stone and then polished with bees wax to provide a lustrous finish demanding this be regarded as 'very special'.
